This approach has two main effects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It allows you to place your &#8220;signature&#8221; on the image, clearly establishing authorship even if the photo is used without permission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It reduces the image&#8217;s usefulness, as a photo with an overlaid logo is less appealing in any context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As we will see, a watermark is more effective the larger and more centered it is on the original image. However, the watermark should not be so large that it prevents viewers from appreciating the subject and quality of the photograph\u2014balance is key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-1-how-to-make-your-watermark-more-effective\"><strong>1.1. How to Make Your Watermark More Effective<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your watermark will be more effective the harder it is to remove without significantly altering the original image. To achieve this, you can follow these guidelines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Place the watermark over detailed and relevant areas of the image. This is a general recommendation, and the ideal size may vary depending on the specific use of the photos. The goal is to ensure images are as small as possible without sacrificing quality. If you\u2019re considering reducing the resolution in dots per inch (DPI), don\u2019t waste your time\u2014it\u2019s irrelevant. As we explain in <a href=\"https:\/\/bluekea.com\/en\/blog\/digital-photography-techniques\/what-is-the-right-dpi-resolution-for-web-photography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this article<\/a>, resolution is not a significant factor for web images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, you can also limit the photo\u2019s quality\u2014and thus its usefulness for unauthorized use\u2014by increasing the compression of the JPEG file. However, there\u2019s a limit: excessive compression reduces sharpness. This protection is typically covered under <strong>copyright laws<\/strong> or <strong>intellectual property regulations<\/strong>.
